My entry for Deviantart and Capcom's Okami competition.

I'm very interested in Shinto, and sumi-e, and I've inked the lines of my entry with traditional brush. My entry depicts the goddess Amaterasu in human form in front of a heavenly gate/torii. At nighttime, when the lanterns are lit among the trees, these gates feel very spooky, as if the spirits truly are passing underneath them.
Amaterasu wears her symbolic magatama necklace.

The texture covering the image is actually from my personal photographic stock of moss and natural textures... Shinto and Shinto art is all about preserving the raw form of nature, and I hope I did that with the natural texture and raw brush.

It looks so much like watercolor, I had a hard time telling whether it was real or digital media at first... of course it turns out to be both. Beautifully rendered piece.
This really deserves to win something. It's certainly one of the best Okami-related pieces I've seen, and it's original on top of that... and I absolutely love the shrine gate and lanterns. Great composition and lighting.

Woow, this is gorgeous! :] The lines are absolutely beautiful, very well done! The lighting is beautiful as well, I love the little flares around the lamps, it really gives it a bit of an eerie but not scary feel :]
